Cardiology Services Combine Technology with Compassion
When Peter Ayres felt tightness in his chest while performing his duties as a firefighter, he initially thought he needed to increase his cardiovascular workouts. When the feeling didn’t subside—and his paramedic colleagues expressed concern—Peter decided to get checked out. It’s a good thing he did, as the cardiology team at Solano Regional Medical Group (SRMG), which is affiliated with Sutter Regional Medical Foundation (SRMF), found a blockage in Ayres’ right coronary artery. He had two stents placed in that artery and had to retire due to his condition, but he’s now doing just fine. “Everyone who worked with me was great. They were calm, they explained the possible causes of my symptoms, and they really made me feel at ease,” says Ayres. “After 18 years as a firefighter, I guess stress took a toll on me.”
An ‘Experienced and Well-Trained Group’
Steven Anton, M.D., medical director of cardiology at SRMG, enjoys helping patients like Ayres get their life back after suffering from a cardiac episode. He and seven other cardiologists provide comprehensive cardiac care. They treat everything from coronary artery disease and heart valve and muscle problems to electrical conduction issues and peripheral vascular diseases. “We’re a very experienced and well trained group that maintains a focus on total patient care,” says Dr. Anton. “We have the latest technology at our disposal, but we’re quite aware that many patients may be fearful when they see us. We’re sensitive to this, and we provide compassionate care that takes all their needs into account.”
Using the Latest Technology
“There are many tools available to diagnose and treat cardiovascular problems, but we also place an emphasis on preventive cardiology,” says Dr. Anton. “The expansion of the Low Court facility has provided us with more modalities for imaging.” The cardiology staff at SRMF works in unison with cardiologists and primary care providers (PCPs), using the latest technology. The clinic performs a wide range of services, including electrocardiograms, 24-hour holter monitor recording, long-term event monitor recording, exercise and pharmaceutical stress tests, echocardiography, pacemaker interrogations, and ankle brachial index testing. SRMF’s Cardiology Department provides comprehensive cardiac care for every patient. The cardiologists offer preventive cardiology consulting, perform interventional cardiac catheterization with angioplasty and stenting procedures, and insert pacemakers and defibrillators, in addition to performing more complex electrophysiological studies and treating peripheral vascular disease.
Our cardiologists work closely with all the physicians in our group, providing referral consultations and advice. Please note that if you are an HMO patient, you must be referred to the Cardiology Department by your PCP.
