    Focusing on Eye Health

Rose Weinburke’s vision was so poor that she couldn’t get out of bed without putting on her glasses. She wore contacts during the day until an infection prevented her from doing so, and she found herself unable to drive after dusk. Weinburke had always been hesitant about having LASIK surgery—even though she’d been told she was a good candidate for it. But after a consultation with Malalai Mojaddidi, O.D., an optometrist at Sutter Regional Medical Foundation (SRMF), she opted to have the surgery—and it has completely changed her life. She adores Dr. Mojaddidi and chooses to see her even though her insurance doesn’t cover her visits. “I absolutely love Dr. M.,” says Weinburke. “She’s very up-front and was the first doctor to provide me with the pros and cons of LASIK surgery, so I felt comfortable making an informed decision.”

Providing a Wide Range of Services
The Eye Care Department—consisting of Dr. Mojaddidi, Donna Hinman Seabrooks, M.D., ophthalmologist, and Melissa Smith, M.D., ophthalmologist—provides a wide variety of optometry and ophthalmology services to SRMF patients, from babies to seniors. These include:

  • Comprehensive eye examinations
  • Cataract and laser surgery
  • Cosmetic surgery
  • Diagnostic testing with the latest technology
  • Full range of low vision services
  • Glaucoma consultations and surgery
  • LASIK comanagement
  • Medical, diabetic and pediatric eye care
  • Pediatric eye surgery
  • Prescriptions for glasses and the latest contact lenses
  • (cosmetic and corrective)
  • Retinal disease diagnosis and management

“We have a great team that really cares about our patients,” says Dr. Mojaddidi. “We take pride in performing comprehensive, thorough exams because we know how precious your eyes are. It is truly rewarding to be in this profession.”

Set Your Sights on Making an Appointment
Dr. Mojaddidi notes that patients benefit from the use of the latest technologies, and it’s an easy process to make referrals to specialists or SRMF primary care physicians. According to the general guidelines from the American Optometric Association, anyone who wears glasses or contacts should have an annual eye exam, as should people older than age 61 and those at risk of having eye problems. It may be appropriate for others to see an optometrist every few years.
