New Ophthalmologist in Vallejo—Take a Close Look
Eye surgery can be stressful , but assurance from your ophthalmologist and confidence in his or her skills can help. This was the case for Joseph Rimac Sr., when he had cataract surgery performed by Anthony Agadzi, M.D., ophthalmologist, who’s a member of Solano Regional Medical Group’s Community Physician Network.
Rimac says that Dr. Agadzi explained what would occur during the surgery and things went flawlessly. Rimac had a patch on his eye following the procedure but says he could see through the side of it almost immediately. “Dr. Agadzi did a splendid job,” says Rimac. “I’m just elated and thankful at how everything turned out. He’s a great doctor who’s easy to get along with and talk to. I’d gladly recommend him to anyone.”
Born to Be a Physician
Dr. Agadzi was born to be a physician. He says that while most parents are proud when a child chooses medicine as a career, it was simply expected that he would follow in the footsteps of his father and older siblings. Dr. Agadzi chose ophthalmology after seeing his niece go through corrective eye surgery. “Most ophthalmologists have a personal anecdote about why they chose the specialty,” says Dr. Agadzi. “My niece’s experience really affected me, and I was fascinated when I did my ophthalmology rotation.”
Dr. Agadzi believes there’s more to medicine than rescuing people—he feels privileged to enhance his patients’ quality of life. He says most people take their senses for granted until something occurs to threaten them.
Treating Chronic Eye Problems
In addition to performing eye surgeries, Dr. Agadzi also plays a role in patients’ ongoing eye care. As the population ages, there’s been a rise in the prevalence of eye diseases, so treating chronic conditions is becoming the rule rather than the exception. “It’s not uncommon to operate on patients who are over the age of 90,” says Dr. Agadzi. “No one wants to lose their sight.”
Dr. Agadzi is especially aggressive in working with patients who suffer from macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts, three of the top four causes of blindness. He enjoys bonding with patients, using an energetic, enthusiastic style.
