PET/CT Services Now Available at Sutter in Fairfield

Sutter Regional Medical Foundation now offers state-of-the-art, high-quality PET/CT services through Sutter Fairfield Medical Campus, 2700 Low Ct., in Fairfield, California on alternate Tuesdays, with the opportunity to expand availability as volume grows.

This remarkable advanced imaging technology allows physicians to make more accurate and early diagnoses, develop tailored treatment strategy, permit precision targeting for radiation therapy and improve treatment monitoring in select patients with a known diagnosis of cancer.

PET/CT is a hybrid technology combining the strengths of two well-established imaging modalities in a single imaging session. PET/CT is a vital component for several oncological applications - the applications continue to expand. It has been particularly effective for head and neck, lung, colon, thyroid and breast malignancies, along with lymphoma and melanoma. Recently included are neurological indications, such as select cases of Alzheimer Dementia.

By combining the metabolic imaging from PET with the detailed anatomical data from CT, physicians are now better able to determine the presence and extent of abnormal activity with precision while also decreasing the need for additional studies and futile or unnecessary invasive procedures or surgery. Payment for this procedure is covered by most private insurances and Medicare for select oncological and neurological diagnoses.
